06 DEC 2017: FMRS contributes to the Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS)

FMRS becomes a GWIS 'Partner and contributing organization'. The Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS) is a joint initiative of the GEO and the Copernicus Work Programs.

20 NOV 2017: FMRS presents NOFFi at the 2nd GEO GWIS / GOFC-GOLD Fire IT meeting

FMRS presented the Greek NOFFi (National Observatory of Forest Fires) at the 2nd GEO GWIS / GOFC GOLD Fire IT meeting that took place at Cumberland Lodge, Great Park, Windsor, Berkshire, UK during the period 20-23 November 2017.

 

25 SEP 2017: AUTh FMRS coorganised workshop with NASA and MAICh

FMRS collaborated with NASA and CIHEAM - MAICh in the organisation of the 11th EARSeL Forest Fires SIG Workshop titled 'New Trends in Forest Fire Research Incorporating Big Data and Climate Change Modeling'. The event that was sponsored by ESA took place at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania between the 25th and the 27th of September 2017.

16 SEP 2017: FMRS participated at the Global Land Cover 30 Data Validation workshop

FMRS participated at the 'Global Land Cover 30 Data Validation' workshop that was organised by the National Geomatics Center of China in Beijing, China (14-15 September 2017). The 'Global Land Cover 30' is the Chinese contribution to GEO.

06 JULY 2017: NOFFi was presented to Korean Forest Service delegation

The National Observatory of Forest Fires (NOFFi) was presented to a Korean Forest Service delegation in Athens. The presentation that took place at the offices of the Central Forest Service was followed by a short excursion to Mountain Hymettos that was burned in 2015.

26 JUNE 2017: NOFFi dissemination event

FMRS, in collabortion with i-BEC (the interBalkan Environment Center), organised a two-day dissemination workshop within the frame of the NOFFi project. The deputy Minister of Environment and Energy as well senior officials from different state agencies such as the Forest Service, Civil Protection and Fire Service attended the very succesful event. 

22 MAY 2017: FMRS participated at a 'Public Diplomacy EU and Russia' event

FMRS participated at the 'Forest ecosystems in the conditions of climate change: regional and international dimensions' international conference that took place in Yoshkar-Ola, Russia during the period 17-19 May 2017. The conference was an EFI associated event that was organised by Volga State University of Technology and the 'Public Diplomacy EU and Russia'.

02 MAY 2017: FMRS participated at the IV International Russian-Greek Students Scientific Conference

FMRS participated at the 'IV International Russian-Greek Students Scientific Conference' that took place in Moscow on the 29th of April 2017.

The conference titled: STUDENTS FOR AGRICULTURE - REMOTE SENSING OF ENVIRONMENT, ORGANIC FARMING was organised by the Agrarian-Technological Institute, People's Friendship University of Russia and the Faculty of Agricuture, Forestry and Natural Environment, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

27 MAR 2017: Prof. Andy Mavromoustakos, University of Arkansas, visits FMRS

Prof. Andy Mavromoustakos, Agricultural Statistics Laboratory - University of Arkansas, visited our premises exploring the possibilities for future collaboration including exchange of researchers among University of Arkansas - College of Agriculture and our unit.

FMRS coorganises the11th EARSeL Forest Fires SIG Workshop titled 'New Trends in Forest Fire Research Incorporating Big Data and Climate Change Modeling'. The event that will take place in Chania, Greece during the period 25-27 September 2017 is jointly organised by FMRS, the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh), member of the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
