28 JUL 2016: FMRS maps the large fire of Chios near-real time

The burned area mapping service software NOFFi-OBAM that was developed within the National Observatory of Forest Fires (NOFFi) project was employed to accurately map in near-real time the large fire on the Greek island Chios. It should be noted that NOFFi-OBAM is an open source software that can be used as a QGIS plugin. The fire was put out on the 27th of July 2016. 

20 JULY 2016: Practical training course on 'Forest Management'

FMRS organises a one-week practical training course on 'Forest Management' on an annual basis. The practical training which is a part of the BSc degree on 'Forestry and Natural Environment' is taking place every summer at the Pertouli University forest.

08 JULY 2016: The Commander of the Hellenic Army Geographical Service visits FMRS

The Commander of the Hellenic Army Geographical Service (HAGS) Colonel Vardis Kayadakis visits FMRS as a part of his visit to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

27 JUNE 2016: FMRS invited to the Hellenic Parliament

FMRS is invited to participate at the Hellenic Parliament Permanent Committee on Environmental Protection. The meeting that will take place on the 28th June 2016 will focus on the 'Sustainable management of grasslands and phryganic areas'.

16 JUNE 2016: FMRS to participate at SafeEvros 2016

FMRS to present the National Observatory of Forest Fires (NOFFi) at SafeEvros (22-25 June 2016, Alexandroupoli, Greece).

09 JUNE 2016: FMRS contributes to GEO SB-02-C2

FMRS contributes to GEO SB-02-C2 (Global Land Cover Validation and User Engagement) which is coordinated by the National Geomatics Center of China (NGCC).

18 MAY 2016: FMRS and ELGO-DEMETER Cereal Institute receive the 'SYNERGAZOMAI 2016' 3rd prize

FMRS and ELGO-DEMETER Cereal Institute were awarded the 3rd prize at the 'SYNERGAZOMAI 2016' competition for the ERMES FP7-Space project. 'SYNERGAZOMAI' is a competition organised by the TECHNOLOGY FORUM, which awards cooperations betweeen research institutions and the industry in developing innovative products and services.

29 MAR 2016: FMRS and NASA's Vincent Ambrosia to chair a special session at RSCy2016

Ioannis Gitas and Dr. Vince Ambrosia of NASA were invited to chair the "Natural Hazards Special Session" at the Fourth International Conference on Remote Sensing and Geoinformation of Environment - RSCy2016 that will take place in Paphos, Cyprus during the period 4-8 April 2016.
