13 NOV 2016: FMRS presents NOFFi-OBAM at ForestSat 2016

The Object Based Area Mapping method (OBAM) which is a part of the National Observatory of Forest Fires (NOFFi) wiil be presented at ForestSat 2016 which will take place in Santiago, Chile, during the period 14-18 November 2016.

21 OCT 2016: The Vice-Rector of the Cyprus University of Technology visits FMRS

The Vice-Rector of the Cyprus University of Technology Prof. Diofantos Hadjimitsis visits FMRS and the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Environment. During his visit Prof. Diofantos Hadjimitsis had the chance to meet with the Dean of the Faculty Prof. Dimitrios Kovaios, and the Heads of the two Schools of the Faculty, namely, Professors Theocharis Zagas and Apostolos Apostolidis.

10 OCT 2016: FMRS to present CLMS at the Copernicus Infoday

27 SEP 2016: The National Observatory of Forest Fires to be presented at the HOLISTIC project Infoday

The National Observatory of Forest Fires (NOFFi) will be presented by Dr. Eleni Dragozi at the HOLISTIC Seismic and Wildfire Risks project Infoday that will take place in Corfu during the period 28-29 September 2016, Divani Corfu Palace, Corfu island.

01 AUG 2016: The National Observatory of Forest Fires (NOFFi) on SKAI TV

The burned area maps produced by NOFFi-OBAM (the National Observatory of Forest Fires / Object-based Burned Area Mapping service) were presented on SKAI nationwide TV broadcasting channel. It should be noted that NOFFi-OBAM products, although produced by FMRS on behalf of the Greek Forest Service, are distributed freely to all interested parties including state agencies such as the Genera

28 JUL 2016: FMRS maps the large fire of Chios near-real time

The burned area mapping service software NOFFi-OBAM that was developed within the National Observatory of Forest Fires (NOFFi) project was employed to accurately map in near-real time the large fire on the Greek island Chios. It should be noted that NOFFi-OBAM is an open source software that can be used as a QGIS plugin. The fire was put out on the 27th of July 2016. 

20 JULY 2016: Practical training course on 'Forest Management'

FMRS organises a one-week practical training course on 'Forest Management' on an annual basis. The practical training which is a part of the BSc degree on 'Forestry and Natural Environment' is taking place every summer at the Pertouli University forest.

08 JULY 2016: The Commander of the Hellenic Army Geographical Service visits FMRS

The Commander of the Hellenic Army Geographical Service (HAGS) Colonel Vardis Kayadakis visits FMRS as a part of his visit to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

27 JUNE 2016: FMRS invited to the Hellenic Parliament

FMRS is invited to participate at the Hellenic Parliament Permanent Committee on Environmental Protection. The meeting that will take place on the 28th June 2016 will focus on the 'Sustainable management of grasslands and phryganic areas'.
