29 NOV 2018: NOFFi gets a distinction by the European network NEREUS

The National Observatory of Forest Fires (NOFFi) got a distinction by the Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies (NEREUS) for the development of the innovative burned area mapping service NOFFi-OBAM. NOFFi is a research project recently implemented by the Laboratory of Forest Management and Remote Sensing (FMRS) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), funded by Greece’s Green Fund with the beneficiary being the Central Forest Service.

18 MAY 2016: FMRS and ELGO-DEMETER Cereal Institute receive the 'SYNERGAZOMAI 2016' 3rd prize

FMRS and ELGO-DEMETER Cereal Institute were awarded the 3rd prize at the 'SYNERGAZOMAI 2016' competition for the ERMES FP7-Space project. 'SYNERGAZOMAI' is a competition organised by the TECHNOLOGY FORUM, which awards cooperations betweeen research institutions and the industry in developing innovative products and services.

28 JANUARY 2016: FMRS receives 'award of excellence' from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

FMRS received 'award of excellence' from the rectorate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During the ceremony that took place at the Aristotle University Hall the most important distinctions received by AUTh members during the year 2015 were awarded.


12 OCTOBER 2015: FMRS chapter contribution has achieved impressive readership results

FMRS chapter titled "Advances in Remote Sensing of Post-Fire Vegetation Recovery Monitoring - A Review" has achieved impressive readership results (see pdf file below). The chapter that has been published with InTech in the book "Remote Sensing of Biomass - Principles and Applications" has so far been accessed more than 3000 times.

08 JUNE 2015: The PE&RS Special Issue on GEOBIA is now available online

The June 2015 (Volume 81, Number 6) issue of the PHOTOGRAMMETRIC ENGINEERING & REMOTE SENSING is based on selected articles that were presented during the GEOBIA 2014 conference that was hosted by FMRS in Thessaloniki, Greece.

04 JUNE 2015: The ArcFUEL in the 'Best' LIFE Environment Projects 2014

The 'ArcFUEL - Mediterranean fuel maps geodatabase for wildland & forest fire safety' (LIFE Environment) project, in which FMRS was a partner, is included in the 'Best' LIFE Environment Projects 2014.

A 'Best LIFE Environment projects' award was presented to the ArcFUEL project consortium by Karl Falkenberg (Director-General, DG Environment) during the Green Week 2015 'LIFE Best Projects Awards' event.

The 2015 edition of the Green Week, the biggest annual conference on European environment policy, took place from 3-5 June at The Egg, Brussels.
