Project Full Title: Utilization of forest biomass (logging residues) for production and standardization of the refined solid biomass fuels. Impact on forest ecosystems.
Project Description
Contents and Objectives
The aim of the current project is to investigate the potential of using oak and pine logging residues, for the production of refined solid biomass fuels. The specific objectives of the research project are:
- to determine the type and quantity of the remained woody biomass and residues after logging
- to determine energy properties and potential of the logging residues
- to produce pellets and evaluate their energy characteristics
- to investigate the removal of the above material (logging residues) on the fertility of soils
Expected Results
The expected results of this project include scientific insights on the possibilities for:
- Maximization of forest biomass harvesting for energy production, and specifically for production of refined solid biomass fuels, and
- Knowledge based forest policymaking for sustainable forest management, and particularly comprehensive utilization and rational use of forest biomass
